College Physical Science                                    Outline 9                                        Period 2 / Stevens

Chapters 4 & 5 – Newton’s Third Law of Motion – Momentum

Objectives --Upon completion you will be able to do the following:

1.    Define force in terms of interaction.

2.    Explain why at least two objects are involved whenever a force acts.

3.    State Newton’s Third Law of Motion.

4.    Solve problems involving Newton’s Third Law.

5.    Explain why accelerations caused by an action force and by a reaction force are not always equal.

6.    Explain why action – reaction forces don’t cancel each other out.

7.    Identify action-reaction force pairs.

8.    Define and describe Momentum & Impulse.

9.    Distinguish between the terms force and mass.

10.   Solve problems using momentum and impulse relationships.

11.   Solve problems using the law of conservation of momentum.

12.   Describe elastic vs. inelastic collisions.
